Inspired by twelfth and fourteenth century clothing, this sleeveless overgarment could be found among traveling pilgrims, simple clergy, townspeople and craftsmen, but also among people of higher status. Around the beginning of the fourteenth century, the sides of this type of garment were increasingly sewn together, gradually changing the surcoat into the sleeveless surcotte we
